Diary Of Anne Frank

So far in my book about Anne Frank, Anne just started writing in her diary so not much has been going on. To start though, her dad is ill. It is a struggle because he is the man of the house and they cannot call a doctor. Another interesting section I read was how the Germans are starting to go house to house checking if any Jews are living in the houses. If they are, they are all forced to leave and go with them. Other than that, the book really has not been AS interesting as it will be later on.

After studying about this topic before reading the book and reading a few pages in the book I can easily tell this book is non-fiction. One way it is easy to tell is how Anne Frank is mentioned and writing in a everyday diary. She is writing events that really happened during that time while hiding. Another way I can tell this genre is nonfiction is how it explains everything I learned about before. It explains how Anne Frank was hiding and up in an attic, how the Germans were on a hunt for them and how Nazi's were pretty much ruling the world with Hitler. I like reading nonfiction because it is based on true facts and actions and most of the time those actions or facts can be interesting.

Holocaust Post

I believe the people sat and watched the Holocaust happened because they were just scared and confused about what was going on and how to find a solution. I would be scared to stand up for everyone and to go against basically the strongest man in the world. The people who stood up against the Holocaust basically did it because they wanted change in their lives and were tired of seeing people struggle the way they were. If I had to make a decision of being a bystander or an up stander I would choose to be a bystander. One reason is because if they found out I was fighting against them they would have killed me instantly. Another reason is because I would not even know if it would be worth it. An example would be if the plan does not work. If the plan does not work, did I just work hard to try to make a change for nothing? Those are the two main reasons why I would be a bystander.

Blog 4: Plunked

So far in my book "Plunked" Jack has been acting sort of childish or scared. The reason I say this is because in the previous chapters Jack has been nervous and terrified to play or practice for his team. His teammates have also noticed his change in feelings and they are doing their best to make him feel better, but he will not give in.  Jack just missed his first game of the season by faking an injury because he was afraid of getting hit again. Jack's parents are getting suspicious, and they are going to find out what is going on.

A signpost or note and notice I found while reading my book is memory moment. I found this when Jack kept having his memory of getting hit for the first time at practice, and how he just kept remembering himself laying on the ground. He kept having this moment in his head where it replays him getting beamed in the ribs by that huge kid who hit him. This is important because every time he reminds himself of that very moment, it affects the way he plays and it makes him terrified, not wanting to play his beloved sport. Every time he has that replay in his head, he loses confidence and love for this sport.

Assignment 3: Plunked

So far in my book "Plunked", Jack Mogens ended up earning up his spot in left field over his opponent Geoff. Geoff does not seem to be upset by the coach's decision, but Jack seems extremely happy and he has showed it to the coaches in their previous practices. But that was until at one of Jack's games where he had lost his confidence and happiness. During the first game of Jack's final season he ends up getting hit in the head by a pitch. He was not allowed to play and did not want to practice anymore. Jack so far has also been acting different in his character at school and at baseball practices due to being hit by a pitch at his game. At the end of the final chapter I read, Jack had gotten bitten again in practice while batting and said that he wanted to just ignore the whole world, and quit baseball.

Right now, I would say the most exciting thing that is sort of causing the climax would be how Jack is being afraid to play baseball and how he wants to quit. This is an interesting part of the plot because Jack stated that he loves baseball and that he would die to play baseball for the rest of his life. But of course something happens in the story which is starting to cause a conflict and cause the climax. Right now the falling action has not taken place but I am pretty sure that during the next few chapters I read, there will be a falling action to tell you about. Something that surprised me when reading this story was the fact that Jack did not want to play his sport. It surprised me because when I read this story I put my self in his shoes since this is very relative to me, and I picture myself quitting baseball and giving up because of getting hit. That surprises me a ton.

Assignment 2: Plunked

I am reading the book "Plunked" and the author is Michael Northrop. The book so far after reading 14 chapters is about the main character Jack Mogens. Jack is in his final year in little league baseball which means more competition. Jack really wants to start in left field, and wants to start even more when he finds out he has a competition named Geoff. The little league team has had many practices and enough to finally finds out who is starting for their first game. That is when Jack finds out him and his friend Andy who plays a different position of second base are both starting for the first game of the season.

I decided to read this book for three different reasons. The first reason is because it is about my favorite sport baseball, two because I once had to fight for my position in little league, and three because of the genre. The genre of this book is realistic fiction. I know this because even though this story is not real or based on a true story, these events can still happen to any kid on any team.  I like this genre because usually when I read a realistic fiction story it is connected to something similar to what I do like sports and then I can learn a lesson from the story. I have read this genre before and I do plan on reading another realistic fiction book.

Assessment

In the article I read about not buying nike products, the argument was really about why we should not buy nike products and how the workers are suffering just to make us happy. One piece of evidence was that the worker who help making the nike products get paid a low minimum wage of $1.25 a day.  The article also stated that the workers would be abused such as being slapped, kicked, and even shoes being thrown at them for not working hard enough. I think that workers should not be able to work for being treated like this. This issue should have been taken care of years ago instead of continuing. One thing I learned about this topic that was interesting was that with their pay from work, they could only be able to afford to rent an 8 foot by 8 foot apartment, get some drinking water, only buy two meals, and secure transportation to work.

In the poem " The Sweatshop" I think the argument is that these workers have to work endlessly and for so long that they have no time to care or be themselves. I think that with all of this non-stop working they don't have anymore feelings and they really don't want any part of social life. One piece of evidence they used to back up this claim was a line that said " I have no feelings, no thoughts, no understanding." Another important line that I found in the poem is towards the end when it states " the slave that is awake in me seems to fall asleep." The difference between reading this poem and reading the article was that in the poem it makes you feel like you are part of this situation. The poem makes you feel like you are this worker being treated poorly rather than the article which states important facts but does not help you understand that much about this problem. This form helped me understand what I was reading because I understood more about what I was reading and understood more about what these workers go through. I understood it more because it was easier to read the words and have a feeling for those words I was reading.

October 24, 2014 Son of Neptune

As I get towards the end of my book, I sort of find the book getting a lot more exciting, but at the same time not as fun as it was before. One reason why I find the book more interesting because on their hunt for a rod percy is looking for, they get into a small war with the other enemies they run into. The biggest enemy they go against are ogres and another group of enemies called Laistrygonians. There is more enemies but mostly these two are the most dangerous. The reason why it is getting a little more boring is because so far Percy has only been searching and really has not had any action until this last chapter.

One big conflict in the book so far is that Percy is still on the hunt for his girlfriend Annabelle and is running into to too many obstacles with the enemies and new leaders. Another conflict is that at the end of the chapter Percy and his group are forced to step on a sort of road in which nobody comes back after they cross it. Percy then steps on the road and sinks into the stony ground. I think this is the biggest conflict so far because without Percy, there is no real leader or strong leader in the group. I think this leads to a theme of being your own leader because even if Percy does not return to take over the group, they all are going to have to be their own leader and do what they think is best to protect the group.

Sports fans going to far?

The article I read because I thought it was interesting was " Do sports fans go too far?" Since I like watching a ton of different sports, I decided to read this article to see if this had anything to relate to how I act. This article mainly talked about how the sports fans act like they are actually a part of that team you are cheering for. One interesting sentence I read from the story was that the Argentinians had a riot since their team had loss the world cup. Luckily for me, I do not go in the streets and take an angry mob with me when my team loses. A connection I had from the article was when it stated that being a big fan can actually make you a happier, healthier person because you can meet and communicate with people you don't know but who enjoy the same team as you. I had a connection to this because that is how I met one of my friends here at this school in sixth grade. In all, for me personally I believe that even though fans may go overboard with their emotions, but they feel this way and do these crazy things because they feel passionate and want to respect their favorite team in their own way.

Son Of Neptune

I am reading the book "Son Of Neptune." I think this book is very interesting and also fun to read because it is adventure. So far I have learned that Percy Jackson has returned back to being the hero he always was but now he is with new people he has never even met before. I also learned that Percy Jackson is a possible threat to his new camp that he just joined. After being chased by Grogons, enemies, Percy was brought into this camp by a girl named Hazel. Hazel swears she has seen Percy before and she is still trying to get answers from Percy, but he still really does not remember anything. I am hoping for some more action as I am getting towards the middle of the book, and I am also hoping for Percy to get his memory back to see what exactly is going on with him at the camp.

AftAfter reading a few chapters of my book I could tell this story is read in third person point of view. I know this because the third person point of view is which the book uses words such as he, she, it or they and those are most of the words I see in the book. I also can tell this is the point of view because I rarely see any 'I's." One example that proves I am correct would be when the story states "Percy shed his pocket. The pen had appeared as it always did." Another example would be "Percy looked down at his tatted shirt." I really like reading in first person slightly more because the author makes me feel like I am part of the story and I think it is better to see yourself in the situations from the book because it can help you understand what your reading more.

Son Of Neptune: Character Analysis

In my new book, "Son Of Neptune" the character that has really been mentioned the most in the first four chapters is Percy Jackson. Son of Neptune is the second book of the Lost Heroes series and I just started book two and find it very interesting. Percy Jackson just met a new character in the book named Hazel and she is showing Percy around his new camp. Hazel is also telling and showing Percy what to expect and what has been going on lately in camp. Percy is also on a search for his girlfriend as we all remember if you read the Percy Jackson series, Annabeth. Percy will do everything and anything he can to succeed in his new camp, find Annabeth, and get his memory back.

The main character in this book is Percy Jackson. Percy Jackson is the son of Neptune and is really the god of water or as the book states, the sea. Percy Jackson is a sort of tall kid with long brown hair and has blue eyes. Percy also has a mother back in his real world, and is father happens to be Zeus. Some would also consider Percy Jackson a brave and powerful hero for all of the heroic things he did in other books. Let's not forget how thoughtful Percy is for his friends and others around him. And finally, Percy Jackson in my eyes and my thoughts as I am reading this book is very protective. Protective to his friends and family, and protective to his teammates at camp. These are all of the character traits I would use for Percy Jackson

Sweet Lemon Brown

I thought this story was kind of interesting to read because of all of the different scenes that go on in the story. I made some connections with Lemon Brown being homeless, and how Greg's dad pushed him with his grades and how he needs to succeed later on in his life. But all in all, after I read the story I really thought back about the beginning of this story how Greg had not cared at all what his father had to say. That was until Lemon Brown had talked with him when they had met in the house, and at the end of the story he was smiling about knowing he was going to get a lecture from his dad. The end of the story really made sense and was comparable to what Lemon Brown and Greg had their conversations about. This connects to what we learned about homelessness because we learned that not all homeless people have to look poor or look like they are dirty and messy. In the end, Greg changed from a moody teenager to a teenager who now understood his responsibilities and what must be done to have the important happiness in his father's mind.

Jinx's Magic summary

The first book that I read in this quarter was called Jinx's Magic and it was a good book. There were four main characters and their names were Jinx, the wizard who;s name was Simon, the Bone-master of the Urwald, and Elfwyn. The Bone-master was the what they called the "Evil guy" in their kingdom. As for Jinx, him and his other two friends Simon and Elfwyn go on a hunt to get to the end of the Urwald so they can get clues and helpful tips from other wizards about how to take down and hunt the Bone-master. But during their hunt, Jinx and his mighty friends end up getting to a hidden village. The only thing was, this village was different then what they are used to seeing. This place was a desert land of Samurai which is where he might find the secret spells and secrets to destroy the Bone-master. And during his hunt, he then finds out that the Urwald is in more danger than it was before. You can find out what happens at the end if you read this book "Jinx's Magic."
